About That Time I Was Responsible for Sinking a Navy Ship…

I was asked a question in a job interview this one time:

"Tell me about a time that didn't work out well for you and your team..."

Early in my Navy career as a Naval Flight Officer, I led an aircrew in a plane called a P-3. Our mission was to hunt submarines.

There was this one mission where we were sent out to protect a navy battle group.

We failed.

I was the team leader. I was devastated.

This experience led me to a career leading Learning and Development (L&D) programs that, when you think about it, create safe environments where people can try something, make mistakes, and learn without real-life consequences.

They're "safe places to fail".

These environments lead to growth and innovation... well, see the video.
